Kwaliteit manuele therapie

Om voor registratie in aanmerking te komen moet je als manueeltherapeut op 1 januari 2025 aan één van onderstaande voorwaarden voldoen:

1. het diploma van een door het KNGF en de NVMT erkende masteropleiding relevant voor het musculoskeletale domein hebben behaald, of
2. een diploma Master of Science, relevant voor het musculoskeletale domein, behaald te hebben, of
3. een graad van doctor bereikt hebben in de wetenschap, relevant voor het musculoskeletale domein.

Nederland maakte met vijf landen afspraken over het wederzijds erkennen van de masterdiploma’s manuele therapie, volgens de afspraken in de IFOMPT Reciprocal Recognition. Sinds 2019 zijn dit de landen:

1. België
2. Australië
3. Verenigd Koninkrijk
4. Duitsland
5. Verenigde Staten van Amerika

De afspraken houden in dat manueel therapeuten met een masterdiploma manuele therapie van een opleiding uit bovengenoemde landen in aanmerking komen voor opname in het kwaliteitsregister fysiotherapie. Er zijn wel voorwaarden:

1. De betreffende opleiding wordt genoemd als erkend instituut op de website van IFOMPT en heeft de internationale monitoring van IFOMPT met succes afgerond.
2. De opleiding is gevolgd én het diploma is afgegeven in een periode waarin die betreffende opleiding de internationale monitoring van IFOMPT met succes heeft afgerond en het diploma geeft in het land van afgifte het recht om als manueel therapeut te werken.

Daarnaast geldt voor de erkenning van alle buitenlandse masterdiploma’s manuele therapie de onderstaande aanvullende voorwaarden vanuit de NVMT:

• Het betreft een IFOMPT erkende opleiding die op de website van IFOMPT staat
• Het een MSc opleiding betreft
• De opleiding bestaat uit 90 ECTS

Om met een buitenlands diploma te kunnen worden ingeschreven in het kwaliteitsregister fysiotherapie dien je een verzoek in bij de NVMT (secretariaat@nvmt.nl). Voeg aan je mail een kopie toe van het buitenlandse diploma. De NVMT geeft, als het diploma voldoet, een verklaring af dat het diploma voldoet aan de vereisten, waarmee je je kunt wenden tot de KNGF met een verzoek tot inschrijving in het deelregister manuele therapie.

The courses are recognized by the Dutch Association for Manual Therapy (NVMT). After graduation, you can register in the physiotherapy quality register. You will find specific information per master course on the websites of the institutes:

• Stichting Opleidingen Musculoskeletale Therapie (SOMT), in Amersfoort, Master’s Degree Manuel Therapy
• Hogeschool Utrecht, Master Orthopaedic Manuel Therapy
• Hogeschool Rotterdam, Master’s Degree Manuel Therapy
• Saxion hogeschool in Enschede, Master’s Degree Musculoskeletal
• Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen (HAN), Master Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation
• Breederode Hogeschool, Master’s Degree Manuel Therapy

Registration

To be eligible for registration, as a manual therapist you must meet one of the following conditions on January 1, 2025:

• Obtained the diploma of a Master’s program relevant to the musculoskeletal domain recognized by the KNGF and the NVMT,
• or have obtained a Master of Science degree, relevant to the musculoskeletal domain,
• or have obtained a doctorate degree in science, relevant tot the musculoskeletal field.

Recognition of foreign diplomas

The Netherlands has made agreements with five countries on the mutual recognition of master’s degrees in manual therapy, in accordance with the agreements in the IFOMPT Reciprocal Recognition. As of 2019, these are the countries:

• Belgium
• Australia
• United Kingdom
• Germany
• United States of America

The agreements mean that manual therapists with a master’s degree in manual therapy from a course from the above-mentioned countries are eligible for inclusion in the physiotherapy quality register. There are some conditions for this:

• The training in question is mentioned as a recognized institute on the IFOMPT website and has successfully completed the international monitoring of IFOMPT
• The training has been completed and the diploma has been issued in a period in which the relevant training has successfully completed the international monitoring of IFOMPT and the diploma gives the right to work as a manual therapist in the country of issue.

In addition, the following additional conditions from the NVMT apply to the recognition of all foreign master’s degrees in manual therapy:

• The master’s degree is an IFOMPT recognized training course which is listed on the IFOMPT website.
• The master’s degree is qualifief as a Master of Science (MSc.) course.
• The master’s degree contains 90 ECTS following the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System. 

To be registered with a foreign Diploma in the physiotherapy quality register, you must submit a request to the NVMT (secretariaat@nvmt.nl). Please attach a copy of the foreign diploma to your email as well. If the diploma meets the requirements, the NVMT will issue a statement that the diploma meets the requirements. Afterwards you can the KNGF with a request for registration in the manual therapy sub-register.
